Key insight

Multiply by (3 - 2), which equals 1. Each factor then combines with the one before by difference of squares, and the whole product collapses to 3^128 - 2^128.

Solution

1. Try a small version first. The first factor is 2+3=52 + 3 = 5, and 32−22=9−4=53^2 - 2^2 = 9 - 4 = 5 too.
2. Add the next factor: (2+3)(22+32)=5×13=65(2 + 3)(2^2 + 3^2) = 5 \times 13 = 65, and 34−24=81−16=653^4 - 2^4 = 81 - 16 = 65. Again they match. It looks like the product is always "33 to some power minus 22 to the same power".
3. Here is why. The difference of squares rule says (a−b)(a+b)=a2−b2(a - b)(a + b) = a^2 - b^2. Multiply the whole product by (3−2)(3 - 2), which equals 11, so nothing changes. Then combine from the left:
(3−2)(3+2)=32−22,(3 - 2)(3 + 2) = 3^2 - 2^2,
(32−22)(32+22)=34−24,(3^2 - 2^2)(3^2 + 2^2) = 3^4 - 2^4,
(34−24)(34+24)=38−28.(3^4 - 2^4)(3^4 + 2^4) = 3^8 - 2^8.
4. Each factor doubles the exponent: 2,4,8,16,32,64,1282, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128. The last factor is (264+364)(2^{64} + 3^{64}), and combining with it gives
(364−264)(364+264)=3128−2128.(3^{64} - 2^{64})(3^{64} + 2^{64}) = 3^{128} - 2^{128}.

The answer is (C) 3128−2128\boxed{\textbf{(C)}\ 3^{128}-2^{128}}.

Why this works

A product like (a+b)(a2+b2)(a4+b4)⋯(a + b)(a^2 + b^2)(a^4 + b^4)\cdots collapses when you multiply by (a−b)(a - b), because each step is a difference of squares. Here a−b=3−2=1a - b = 3 - 2 = 1, so multiplying by it is free. There are seven factors, and seven doublings take the exponent from 11 to 27=1282^7 = 128, not 127127.

Concise solution

A shorter write-up, the way contest solutions are usually written. It may take a different route from the solution above.

The factors have the form (3k+2k)(3^k + 2^k) with k=1,2,4,…,64k = 1, 2, 4, \dots, 64. Multiplying by (3−2)=1(3 - 2) = 1 does not change the value but starts a chain of differences of squares:
(3−2)(3+2)=32−22,(32−22)(32+22)=34−24,(34−24)(34+24)=38−28,(3-2)(3+2) = 3^2 - 2^2,\quad (3^2-2^2)(3^2+2^2) = 3^4 - 2^4,\quad (3^4-2^4)(3^4+2^4) = 3^8 - 2^8,
and so on. Each step doubles the exponent, and after absorbing the last factor (364+264)(3^{64} + 2^{64}) we are left with
3128−2128.3^{128} - 2^{128}.

The answer is (C) 3128−2128\boxed{\textbf{(C)}\ 3^{128}-2^{128}}.
